Typically for larger decorating projects, I do request a materials deposit to initiate the project. However, the specific deposit amount depends on the estimated costs of the project. It’s important to understand that all alkyd (oil-based) paints, varnishes and solvents contain volatile organic compounds, or VOCs. These can cause negative health effects such as respiratory problems, asthma attacks, eye irritation, dizziness and nausea. As a professional, it’s crucial to prioritise the health and safety of individuals who may come in contact with these materials and take necessary precautions, such as opting for more environmentally friendly alternatives where possible.

To properly determine the nature of the painted surface, it is recommended to perform a small test in a discreet area. Begin by applying a solution of methylated spirits to the surface using a cotton bud. If any paint comes off, this indicates that it is a latex (water-based) paint. If no paint comes off, it suggests an oil-based (alkyd) paint. Please note that regardless of the type of paint, proper preparation is always vital to ensure a successful outcome.

On interiors, after you have removed your delicate items, all areas or remaining items, will be covered with clean drop cloths or plastic dust sheeting. On exteriors, shrubs and surrounding areas will be protected so that no evidence of paint splatter or paint peelings remains.

For the convenience of everyone, may I kindly request to have all small items and breakables relocated beforehand? Unless stated otherwise, we will take care of moving and safeguarding all lightweight furniture and fixtures.
